Warriors undefeated weekend

The 2011 Warriors had a big weekend Saturday, April 30th, as they defeated rival Pleasanton Rage 4-3 in a well contested match. The Warriors started short handed and held strong on defense with Emma Gomez, Leah Inouye, Shelby Ford, Bryssa Rodriguez. Pleasanton surged in the middle of the first half after two well contested goals.  

The Warriors continued to push the attack and finally broke through at the eighteenth minute on a strong move off the corner and finish by Daniela Cervantes to close the gap to 1-2. Late in the first half the Warriors continued to pressure the Rage defense with a push by Cervantes, Sydney Biederman, and Striker Leilani Kokuhiko that ultimately resulted in a Kukahiko goal to tie things up at 2-2.  However, Pleasanton scored as minutes ran down on a corner kick direct shot to goal.  

Down 2-3 at half, the substitute-less Warriors took advantage of half time to rest. Bryssa Rodriguez  provided persistent pressure from the right ultimately resulting in a beautiful assist on an exchange with Cervantes for the goal. Tied up at 3-3 the Warriors got a boost from three added players Francesca Romagna, Olivia Rodriguez, and Olivia VanBuskirk, with less than fifteen minutes left in a to take control off the remaining minutes and ultimately take the lead 4-3 on second B. Rodriguez assist and a Daniela Cervantes goal to complete a hattrick.     

On Sunday, May 1st, the Warriors capped off the exciting weekend with a nail-biting 2-2 tie with league leading Benicia Arsenal. Benicia imposed its physical presence dominating the first five minutes of the game and scoring in the fourth minute. The Warriors responded by tough play inspired by Madison Bolduc, Francesca Romagna, Bryssa Rodriguez, Jiliana Mantach and outstanding play out of the back by Olivia VanBuskirk, Emma Gomez, Leah Inouye, and Shelby Ford.  Midway through the first half the Warrior's pressure paid off with a goal by Daniela Cervantes to tie the game 1-1. The outsized Warriors finished the half frustrating the Arsenal team by returning the strong physical play with persistence, resilience, and boundless energy.  

The second half was equally exciting with a Benicia goal off a free kick  to go up 1-2 half way through the second half. The Warriors rebounded a second time with a goal with less than 8 minutes to play on a fantastic Romagna goal. Benicia imposed a relentless attack in the last seven minutes but left themselves exposed. The Warriors took advantage but could not finish with waves of pressure coming from Francesca Romagna, Olivia Rodriguez, Bryssa Rodriguez, and Daniela Cervantes: The game end knotted at 2-2 and highlighted an outstanding response by the entire team to adversity early in game and inspirational goalie work by Leilani Kukahiko in her first complete game.
