“TEAM TERREMOTO” traveled away to San Ramon Saturday for another road game, and came out victorious with a convincing shutout victory before a larger crowd, winning by the score of 5-0.

Luke Achziger scored two hard shot unassisted goals from his defensive position to pace the Terremoto scoring, aided in one as he moved up the sideline passing with midfielder Grayson Layog, and scoring the other from about 30 yards out as he placed the long-arcing shot perfectly in the upper part of the net by the far post.

Another offensive standout was striker Julian Marron, yet again, who landed a brutally hard rocket 20-yard shot, and also assisted attacking midfielder Tony Mendoza in another great goal.  Tony and Julian both went crashing in to follow up on a shot after Joaquin Retuyan had collected the ball on the left, made a few good moves through defenders, and crossed to striker Marron for a shot.  When the hard shot caromed off of the goalkeeper, in heads-up fashion both players Julian and Tony were hungry, and ready, and attacking mid Tony did not disappoint.  Gooaaall!

Grayson Ryan also landed yet another hard shot in this game, also, as he constantly streaked up the sideline from his defensive position, troubling the defenders continually, and advanced yet again to blast a shot into the goal the keeper had no chance to get.

The team was aided again by some outstanding saves by Terremoto goalkeeper Liam Souza, who also was forced to stop a San Ramon breakaway that might have changed momentum in the game.  His coach noted, “Liam displayed some real confidence in there, and the opposing coach even commented about some of the great saves he made.”

Next, apparently riding a good scoring wave, on Sunday Team Terremoto played their first home game at Legacy Fields, taking on a Brentwood Revolution opponent in a Norcal California State Cup game.

The home game went better for Terremoto in this home debut than for its opponent, as the team was relentless in pressuring its opponent and ended up scoring ten goals, winning 10-1.  Four players scored 2 goals each, including Gavin Su (1 assist Marron), Joaquin Retuyan (1 assist Mendoza), Brayden Aycock (1 assist Retuyan, 1 Marron and Mendoza), and Nick Brown (assist Marron).

The coach praised Nick Brown particularly for his better positioning and ability to find the open man with his nice passing from midfield.  Su scored his goals from his center defensive position.  Retuyan was relentless in pressuring and providing tricky maneuvering with the ball, landing some great crosses, whether right foot or left.  Aycock, also known as “Bear”, displayed a good knack for getting to an opportunistic scoring position quickly.

Speedy, charging forwards Mason Fehlmann (assist Marron and Achziger) and Julian Marron (assist Brown) both scored yet again in this one, as well.

After this game, four Terremoto players went to Newark to be guest players again for the Tsunami team in their State Cup game, where after being down 3-1, they ended up victorious in an exciting comeback 4-3 win (including Marron, Su, Ryan, Retuyan, and Tony Mendoza).

Notably, the Terremoto team has dedicated its season to Tony Mendoza’s loving father, Miguel Mendoza, who lost his life recently in a tragic accident and hospital stay.  Miguel Mendoza was perhaps the team’s biggest fan, and his inspirational passion and love for the game and his sons was well-evident to all who knew him.

Though Miguel cannot be there to watch his son play, Tony plays with the word “Dad” on his jersey, and the team does a loud cheer for Miguel prior to its games, to honor him, in remembrance.
