West Coast 2009 Wolfpack combined with 2009/2010 Klash to play in the Thriller Classic tournament held in Morgan Hill this Halloween weekend. Their first game they faced Central Valley San Jose United. In the first half United was able to find the back of the net, but West Coast quickly followed with a goal by Izabella Arellano off a corner kick she took. After halftime United scored their second goal. With only a few minutes left, Taylor Caioli launched a corner kick where Alivia Narducci-Chiunti placed it in the goal to tie the game. The game ended with a 2-2 draw.

In their second game of the day, West Coast was up against the hosting club, OV Toros. The first half ended with a tie. Once the second half begun, Savannah Williams received the ball, beat a Toros defender and blasted the ball in the back of the net to give the team a 1-0 lead. Just a two minutes later, Alaina Briones found Williams in the attacking third of the field. Williams then again found the back of Toros goal for her second goal of the game. The final whistle blew, and West Coast won 2-0 placing the team in first place in points and off to the semifinals the next day.

The next morning West Coast played against Almaden FC in the semifinals of the tournament. With the team focused and Coach Adaurie Dayak noticing some goal hungry players in warmup, she adjusted her lineup for the start and told the team, “I can feel us getting an early goal in this game. I know we can do it. We need to come out firing on all cylinders at the whistle and keep the ball in our opponent’s half.” The whistle blew with Almaden FC having kickoff, West Coast came flying with speed and immediately won the ball and kept it in their opponent’s half. With high energy flowing, a foul was called on Almaden FC. Taylor Caioli stepped up for the free kick. She launched the ball perfectly into the goal box where Ashley Browning found the ball and placed it in the back of the net. This was the early goal West Coast needed. Throughout the whole game the team demonstrated great skills with passing and moving off the ball and amazing defense holding a shutout. Ultimately, it ended with West Coast winning 1-0 and off to the Championship game.

The final game came to start against Tulare Force and just four minutes after kickoff, off of a corner kick, Caioli found Makena Loder who was able to tap the ball into the goal for the first goal of the game. Just five minutes later Madelynn Hernandez passed a through ball to Browning who broke away one on one with the keeper and placed it in the goal for a 2-0 lead. After being up by two goals at half time, Coach Adaurie told the team how important it is to keep the lead and continue to play with great ball control and passing. The whistle blew for the second half and West Coast moved the ball beautifully throughout the field. There were many attempts made by the team that were just shy of the goal. With 12 minutes left in the game, and West Coast pressuring high on Tulare Force, Force played the ball off a goal kick where Loder found the ball quickly and placed the ball low in the right corner of the goal for her second goal of the game. 12 minutes later the final whistle blew and West Coast 2009/10 Wolfpack/Klash team was named the Champions at the Thriller Classic.

After the game Coach Adaurie Dayak stated, “I am so proud of how well these players did together. The passing and moving on and off the ball was so fun to watch. The team has been working so hard in practices and games leading up to this weekend. They really deserve this.”
