West Coast Terremoto earned second place in the top division of the recent BooFest tournament in Brentwood.

The team got to the finals by virtue of its preliminary round play, with a 7-2 victory over Merced Albion and good goals and a hat trick by Julian Marron (with three), Mason Fehlmann, Joaquin Retuyan, Brayden Aycock, and Ojan Wahidi, and assists by Fehlmann, and Nick Brown.  Goals were scored in the second game by Marron, unassisted, with a great turn and shot, and by Ojan Wahidi placed nicely after a great run down the sideline and cross by Joaquin Retuyan.

In the semi-finals against Sonima Valley United, Terremoto was down 1-0 early in the game, but Julian Marron tied it up before the half with another goal, to make the score 1-1.  About three minutes into the second half, Joaquin Retuyan made a nice overlap run around the outside of Marron, who delivered a perfect pass to Retuyan, who shot it into the goal to give Terremoto a nail-biting 2-1 lead.

Both teams were playing hard, wanting to get to the final, and they went back and forth for the next fifteen minutes.  Fullback, Grayson Ryan, kicked a high long arcing shot towards the Sonoma goal.  Julian Marron provided some pressure on the shot, and the ball ended up bouncing out to midfielder, Tony Mendoza, who calmly provided what turned out to be the game-winning shot, for a 3-1 Terremoto lead!

The solid back line of Luke Achziger, Gavin Su, and Grayson Ryan, buttressed by Grayson Layog, played superbly and were well-tested in this exciting match.  Forwards Andros Azer, Nick Brown, Brayden Aycock and Ojan Wahidi also played well.

The Sonoma team pressed hard and was able to score a second goal, and momentum could have shifted there, making the score 3-2.  However, goalkeeper Liam Souza came up with two great saves, including a free kick high shot destined to go in -- were it not for his jump-- on the last play of the game, to preserve the victory and make Terremoto a finalist.

Tired from this game, in the final, Terremoto was facing a tough team who had beaten the host team 5-3 in the other semi-final.  Although Terremoto was able to tie the game with a beautiful volley by Grayson Ryan at 1-1, alas, after a vigorous semi-final, and despite good goals for itself, Terremoto was beaten with 3 goals in the last ten minutes, losing 5-2, but capturing with excitement the nice and well-deserved second place medals.
