On Saturday, West Coast 2013 Krush traveled to Vallejo to play against Vallejo United Bella Donas. The Krush started off strong scoring a goal in the first thirty seconds by a pass from Ridhima Bhagavatula to Veda Castanon who placed the ball in the back of the net. Eight minutes later, Gabriella Padilla shot the ball which then deflected off a Vallejo player and went into the goal. Just before halftime, Riley Burkett slipped the ball through the defense to Bhagavatula who placed the ball in the bottom right corner for a 3-0 lead and a defensive shutout for defenders Braedyn Mickael, Kalista Smalls, Jessa Alter, and Emma Gilbert who all worked hard keeping the ball out of West Coast territory.

The whistle blew for the start of the second half and thirty seconds in, Castanon won the ball and dribbled up the field. She then crossed the ball to the right side where Leela Lewis was making a run. Lewis trapped the ball and shot it in the goal to get the 4-0 lead over Vallejo. Four minutes later, Castanon did a wall pass with Lewis and then dribbled through the defense to score. One minute later, Castanon won the ball and dribbled up the field, shot, and scored her first hat trick. Twelve minutes into the game, Castanon passed the ball to Lewis once again and Lewis shot the ball and scored the seventh goal of the game. At the 15 minute mark, Vallejo had a breakaway and a shot that was saved by goalkeeper Gabriella Padilla. Three minutes later, Vallejo kicked the ball down the field for a second breakaway, shot, and scored. Moments later, Vaishnavi Nandipati had her third shot on goal that was saved by the goalkeeper. With five minutes left in the game, Kalista Smalls passed the ball to Jessa Alter, who shot and scored the final goal of the game. The game ended with a 8-1 victory for West Coast Krush.

The next morning West Coast Krush hosted Newark FC at Legacy Fields in Tracy. The team moved the ball well, passing from one side of the field to the other, and trying to find the gap to goal. Ridhima Bhagavatula passed to Gabriella Padilla who passed it to Brooklyn Munoz. Munoz then dribbled the ball, beat three players, and was tackled by the last defender who cleared it out of the box. Moments later, Bailee Kruger passed the ball to Kalista Smalls who shot just wide of the goal. At the twenty minute mark, Newark had a goal kick that Emma Gilbert charged up on the ball and shot from far out of the box. The shot was then saved by the goalkeeper. With only three minutes remaining in the half, Bhagavatula received the ball wide and crossed it to Smalls who placed it in the back of the net for the first goal of the game. The half ended at a 1-0 lead for Krush with defensive line Braedyn Mickael, Karina Grewal, Bailee Kruger, Emma Gilbert and goalkeeper Vaishnavi Nandipati holding the defensive shutout.

The second half started and Krush came out strong and fierce. Three minutes in, Kruger crossed the ball from the left side of the field to the right side to Leela Lewis who took a couple touches and found the back of the net. Six minutes later, Lewis was fouled in the box and a penalty kick was called. She stepped up to take the PK and placed it in the goal for her fourth goal of the weekend. Ten minutes later, Munoz cut the ball through two defenders and took the shot that just missed wide. Moments after that, Smalls beat a defender, passed the ball to Munoz, who then beat another defender to get a shot off. The ball rocketed past the goalkeeper for Munoz’s much deserved first goal of the game. At the 23rd minute, Newark FC had a corner kick that slipped into the box and the ball made its way across the goal line. Krush fought back immediately at kickoff and Munoz broke through Newark FC defense and shot the ball in the goal, ending the game with a 5-1 victory over Newark FC.

West Coast Krush coach, Adaurie Dayak said “it’s really nice to see all that we work on in practice shine through in what we do in games. I am looking forward to these next couple weeks of Halloween themed practices and games.”

West Coast 2013 Krush are looking forward to their next game in Fremont on Saturday, October 21st and their first Halloween Tournament as a team in Morgan Hill the following weekend.
