West Coast 2014 Aftershocks Boy’s Team Wins the TSP Phantom Cup Undefeated!

In the first ever TSP Cup hosted by Turlock, West Coast 2014 Aftershocks emerged undefeated in the tournament. The boys were crowned champions after a well contested and highly competitive game.

The Aftershocks defeated Valley United Soccer Club boys by a score of 3-2 in the opening game of the tournament. They faced the 2014 TSP FC 2014 boy’s team in game two and navigated to a 8-3 win.

Game three would prove to be a highly competitive game for both teams. The Aftershocks faced a strong 2014 South Valley Unified Club who also came into the final game undefeated.

As a result of amazing goal keeping by Liam Kalis, the game was 0-0 for much of the first half until Arjun Verma from the Aftershocks made a great move from outside of the penalty box into space towards the goal. With a strong right foot he was able to pick his spot and shoot just to the left of the South Valley keeper to go up 1-0.

Not to be outpaced, the South Valley team immediately turned up the intensity and scored shortly after with a banger just past outside of the penalty box. Both teams went into halftime tied 1-1.

When coming out of halftime you could hear the passion coming from both teams as the players loudly proclaimed their team chants and took the field. Not long into the second half Amaziah Giron received the ball in the middle third of the field. He was able to dribble past several defenders, finally splitting a pair of two defenders to put a shot into the back of the net. 2-1 Aftershocks.

The Aftershocks held the lead until the final minute of the game when an injury occurred to a player on the South Valley team. With just thirty seconds left in the game a free kick outside of the box was awarded. In a rocket of a shot near the sideline, a South Valley player picked his spot and shot for the far top corner. Brayden Aycock, goalie for Aftershocks, made an amazing jumping save and immediately deflected the ball down towards the ground where he dove to follow the ball. It was redirected by South Valley but again blocked by Aycock. The ball was cleared out of bounds over the end line resulting in a corner kick for South Valley. This would normally have been the end of the game but due to injury extra time, South Valley had just moments left to shoot a corner kick. In an amazing effort, the ball was placed over the head of the Aftershocks keeper and volleyed one touch into the Aftershocks net. Tied 2-2 with no time left.

In an epic shootout that would ultimately go six rounds, the Aftershocks won the game. Goal keeper Brayden Aycock would make a diving save to deny the win for South Valley and was followed by a game clenching goal by Isa Amin. The last player from South Valley would miss over the top of the net, securing the win for the 2014 West Coast Aftershocks Boys team. Coach Curtis Aycock and Phil Kalis were extremely proud of the game played by their team and look forward to a deep run in the State Cup this year.
