The West Coast 08 Kraze team captured the NPL league championship this past weekend with a commanding 5-0 victory over first-place Pajaro Valley. The match, held during the prestigious NorCal College Showcase, was not only a title decider but also a major opportunity for players to perform in front of hundreds of college coaches—and the Kraze delivered in every aspect.
Danielle Rey opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing a perfectly timed cross from Lillian Cooke. Just five minutes later, Rey struck again, putting West Coast firmly in the driver’s seat. Mia Moniz added a third in the 38th minute, and moments later, Mackenzie Johnston made it 4-0 just before the halftime whistle, assisted by Moniz. Brooklyn Cornish capped the scoring in the second half with a clinical finish off a corner kick.
Goalkeeper Avery Gleason earned the clean sheet, anchored by a disciplined and tenacious back line of Claire Gornik, Rachel Warter, Brooklyn Cornish, and Isabella Smith. In the midfield, Taylen Dayak, Illiana Parra, and Athina Anowia controlled the tempo, while offensive threats Aliya Lopez, Valeria Fuentes, Kylie Brasil, and Sierriah Garcia created constant pressure.
The setting couldn’t have been better. NorCal Premier Soccer’s College Showcase is widely recognized as the best in California, bringing together a massive network of college scouts and coaches. With so many eyes on the field, the timing of the championship match was perfect. “It was an amazing atmosphere,” said West Coast Director Troy Dayak. “We had coaches lined up on the sidelines watching a meaningful game between two top teams. This is exactly the kind of platform our players deserve.”
Dayak, a former U.S. National Team player and long-time youth development advocate, was actively networking and personally inviting coaches to the sidelines throughout the event. His strong relationships and reputation in the college soccer community continue to pay dividends for West Coast players. “College coaches trust Troy,” said one parent. “He’s promoted players year after year, and he knows how to put them in front of the right people.”
Already, players from the 08 Kraze team are receiving interest and follow-up from college programs. With the league title secured and the future bright, West Coast Soccer continues to deliver on its mission—developing players and guiding them to the next level of their journey, both on and off the field.
