West Coast Warriors 02 Girls finish as the top seed in Norcal State Cup group play. In a cross town rival “Derby” match WCS came out on top defeating a highly ranked Fusion SC 02 team to claim top spot in state cup group play.

A clearance error out of the back led to a counter goal for Fusion SC in the first half. The ball was scooped up by Taylor Bond and she sprinted forward and finished nicely to put Fusion SC ahead 1-0. Some halftime adjustments were made by West Coast and they came out strong firing twice to score and stun the onlooking crowd. Heather Tarabini received a pass from Leila Ganz and streaked past the Fusion defense to slot the tying goal. As the intensity of the game rose to a new level so did West Coast’s play. The momentum shifted again when Tarabini slipped a pass to Madison Del Prado who turned nicely at the top of the goal box and smashed home the go ahead goal. The Warriors had strong performances from team captains Leila Ganz, Mia Mendoza & Caitlyn Carlton. Arianna Moore, Isabel Mello, Makayla Marinaro, Julianne Munoz & Fayth Hinojosa were able to control the rest of the game.  Fusion had a last minute corner but GK Morgan Blankenship and the WCS defense defused the situation well giving West Coast Soccer the 2-1 victory.

The Warriors took on Dublin United Premier in the final round of state cup group play. The Warriors came out of the gate early and strong to score their first two goals by Heather Tarabini assisted by Brianna Herren and Yareli Hernandez. The team did not allow Dublin’s goalie to rest as they kept firing shots on target, the final goal of the first half was scored by Mia Mendoza. The WCS Midfielders Caitlyn Carlton, Makayla Marinaro, and solid defense from Lindsey Plant, Jordan Brown and Brianna Herren worked hard to keep the ball on the attacking side.  West Coast started the second half enthusiastically scoring two goals in five minutes.  Smooth passing and sharp execution of shots resulted in the final score of 10-0 in favor of West Coast. The remaining goals were scored by Yareli Hernandez, Heather Tarabini, Julianne Munoz, Caitlyn Garrison, Jordan Brown-Mundey, and Kaitlin Carlton, with assist provided by Isabel Mello, Brianna Herren, and Arianna Moore.
