This past weekend was the beginning of the NorCal U13 girls State Cup playoffs. West Coast's pre NPL 06 girls team, Krossfire, was slated to start their road to the finals on Saturday evening against a tough Ajax 06 Green team. The weather conditions were less than ideal as the cold wind and rain continued throughout the match. Both teams battled for control of the midfield as offensive attacks were limited by tough defense. Ajax would get on the board first, putting a ball over the top of the defense and in the goal. Krossfire fought back hard as Payton Hoover connected to Gianna Ramirez who tied up the match.  Both teams continued to have a good contest but with about 5 minutes left in the game, Kendra Riddiough knocked in the pass from Kayla Robinson to give Krossfire the 2-1 lead. Ajax would answer back quickly knotting the match at 2s. Sophia Simonds then launched a long pass to Robinson slipped through the Ajax defense and knocked in the shot to give Krossfire the 3-2 lead. With time expiring, Gabby Carlton connected a pass to Hoover who scored the insurance goal. Krossfire went on to win 4-2 and move on to the Norcal Premier semifinals.

Sunday Krossfire continue their road to the finals with a semifinal match against the San Francisco Aftershocks. Krossfire quickly created some scoring opportunities, but were unable to capitalize. The match would go back and forth throughout the first half with neither team being able to put themselves in the lead. The second half saw the Aftershocks come out firing, but the Krossfire defense was able to stop any offensive attack Sf mounted. Both teams would battle back and forth until Kayla Robinson was able to knock in a rebound off a Payton Hoover shot to give Krossfire the 1-0 lead. Krossfire's stout defensive line anchored by Adriana Paneda, Brittany Hahn, Madylin Harrell, and Sophia Simonds along with goalkeeper Jennessa Maselli would continue to hold off the Aftershocks and give Krossfire the 1-0 victory. “I’m very happy with our teams progression this year, we responded well under pressure and in some extreme conditions” said Krossfire’s professional coach Marlon Fernandez.

Next up for Krossfire is the NorCal Premier 1 State Cup Finals against Elite Sonic Orange team on February 23rd in Modesto. These teams have faced off against each other in the past and every meeting has been a hard fought battle.
