The West Coast Wolfpack 08 Girls waltzed into State Cup weekend playing some of the best team soccer they’ve played all year. In the quarter final match up, West Coast faced a very strong Ceres Earthquakes team. Wolfpack got on the board early with a nice cross and finish goal, igniting the parent sideline into a frenzy. Later in the half, Ceres managed to equalize. At halftime, the girls had that look of determination in their eyes and wanted to get back on the field as soon as possible. With some back and forth action, the Earthquakes managed to pull in front to take the lead. Not soon after, West Coast made it even with a beautiful goal. Still making a push and not much time remaining, West Coast made the most of a free kick from 25 yards out, and put it in the back of the net for a 3-2 lead. Coach Sara Girotto strategically changed the formation the last five minutes of the game to shut down any offensive push for the win.

The Semifinals, West Coast faced another formidable team, Elk Grove Almeida. With their eyes on the prize, Wolfpack seized their moment and got up 2-1 by half with accurate passing, quick footwork, communication, and sheer determination. With the strong winds coming at them, West Coast Wolfpack shut down Elk Grove in the second half for the 2-1 victory. Intelligent defense was displayed by Sofia Paz and Addie McNeil while  Taylen Dayak shut down their top forward. Some serious midfield wizardry by Karly Martins, Haley Gama, and Aubrey Westbrook kept the Wolfpack running and the strikeforce of Kendall Coates, Saniyah Lee, and Jazlyn Gonzalez supplied the attack. Phenomenal goalkeeping by Alexis Zamora and Ashley Browning secured the victory. West Coast Wolfpack will face Piedmont Highlanders Purple in the State Cup Premier 5 Finals on February 24.
